Last year I missed it: the Ongwediva Trade Fair, the biggest event in the North during the whole year. When you virtually crawl on the road between Oshakati and Ongwediva and the traffic accident rate rises as visitors blow in from the capital and the South you know it’s on. Besides the informations booths of the exhibitors (both private and governmental) it is the other stuff that attracts the crowd: takeaways, bars, China shops, fashion show and live music. I have to say I was quite impressed by the exhibition hall – could have been easily somewhere at a commercial fair in Europe. No wonder that the mostly younger audience had been all excited: some of them never made it to Windhoek let alone abroad.
